Going to a wedding? How to make a statement without annoying the bride!

As a female wedding guest it can often be difficult finding appropriate dresses for weddings that allow you to make a statement without upsetting the bride. Everyone wants to look their best and receive plentiful complements, especially if a wedding invitation offers a rare opportunity to dress up. However, it is very important that you do so without angering or over-shadowing the bride. Of course the day is about the bride and groom making an important and special commitment, but for many brides it’s also the one day they can feel really special and centre of attention, try to hijack that and it will be disastrous for you and the bride. So, in this case what do you wear to still look and feel special yourself without stepping on the brides toes? Well put simply find out what kind of wedding it is and what kind of dress the bride will be wearing. Of course it goes without saying that to wear a long cream or white dress if the bride is having a traditional western wedding is  a no no, but I would go as far to suggest you avoid wearing the same colour or similar style  as the bride full stop.

If the wedding dress is extremely ornate and dramatic you may be able to get away with a long evening dress as it will still be understated in comparison to the bride. However, if the bride is opting for a simpler, minimalist design I would argue it is best to avoid a long evening gown altogether unless the invitation specifically states ball gowns as part of the dress code. If you still want to make a statement a good choice is to go for a simple knee length dress in a bright vibrant colour with heeled sandals or a platform heel. If you would prefer a more intricate design, opt for more muted or pastel shades. Another great way of making a bold statement is by making your shoes and accessories centre stage as these are unlikely to be in conflict with the brides outfit. Wear a simple dress with a bold clutch bag and a striking pair of wedges or diamante encrusted sandals.
